Before you install
- Create a backup from Backups. The installer keeps copies of any files it replaces, but that is not a world backup.
- Stop the server and wait until it shows as offline. Mods & Plugins will not install on a running server.
- If you are a subuser, the owner must give you file read, create, update and delete permissions. Rust plugins also need startup permission, because Oxide is enabled in the startup settings.
Install in one click
- In the panel, open your server and select Mods & Plugins.
- Search or browse, choose the mod or plugin, and select Install, then Confirm.
- Wait for “Installation complete”. Required dependencies are installed with it.
- Start the server and watch Console until it finishes loading, then join and check the mod works.
What each game offers
Minecraft Java: search the full Modrinth and CurseForge library. Paper and Purpur servers take plugins; Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt servers take mods. The library only shows releases that match your server type and version. Tested modpacks install in one action from the Modpacks page; see “Install a Minecraft modpack”.
Hytale: search CurseForge server mods; only releases that match your exact server build are offered.
Valheim: tested Thunderstore mods. BepInEx and dependencies are installed for you. Some mods must also be installed on each player’s PC, and the catalog says when.
Rust: tested Oxide plugins. The first install sets up Oxide automatically.
Minecraft Bedrock: tested add-ons, enabled in your world’s pack stack automatically.
Project Zomboid: tested Steam Workshop mods, added to your server configuration for you.
7 Days to Die: tested server modlets, placed in /Mods for you.
Necesse: tested server mods, verified by checksum on install.
The Install button is missing or disabled
- Check that the server is fully stopped, not starting or stopping.
- If you are a subuser, ask the owner to add the file permissions listed above.
- Refresh the page after the server stops.
The install failed
If an install fails, no files are activated and any changed files are rolled back. The message says why, for example a provider timeout or a version or dependency conflict. Wait a minute and try again, or choose a release that matches your server version.
The server will not start after installing
- Open Console and find the first error mentioning the new mod or plugin.
- Stop the server and remove the mod you just added using Files, then start again.
- If the world itself was changed, restore the backup you made before installing.
- Still stuck? Open a ticket with the mod name and the first console error, or ask in our Discord.
The mod you want is not listed
For games with tested selections, the list grows as we test more mods on real servers. You can still install other mods manually through Files or SFTP; each game guide explains how. Garry’s Mod uses Workshop collections in startup settings, and Enshrouded, RuneScape: Dragonwilds and Windrose do not support server mods.
