Understand enshrouded_server.json
The official dedicated server generates enshrouded_server.json after first startup. It contains settings such as the server name, save and log directories, slot count, chat settings and game-settings preset.
Runic manages the assigned network allocation. Do not replace IP or query-port values with examples from an external tutorial unless the Runic panel explicitly exposes that field for editing.
Change settings safely
- Create a recovery point before editing the server configuration or replacing a world.
- Stop the server before making file-level changes.
- Change only the setting you intend to test, such as name, slot count or supported gameplay preset.
- Start the server and check the console for JSON/configuration errors.
- Verify the world and player access before removing the recovery point.
Move an existing world
Enshrouded stores the shared game world on the dedicated server while character progression remains client-side. Migrate the complete compatible server world data, not a random subset of save files, and keep the original copy until the migrated world has been verified.
