Set up your Enshrouded server

Configure the official Enshrouded dedicated server through its JSON settings while preserving Runic-managed network values and the world save directory.

Understand enshrouded_server.json

The official dedicated server generates enshrouded_server.json after first startup. It contains settings such as the server name, save and log directories, slot count, chat settings and game-settings preset.

Runic manages the assigned network allocation. Do not replace IP or query-port values with examples from an external tutorial unless the Runic panel explicitly exposes that field for editing.

Change settings safely

  1. Create a recovery point before editing the server configuration or replacing a world.
  2. Stop the server before making file-level changes.
  3. Change only the setting you intend to test, such as name, slot count or supported gameplay preset.
  4. Start the server and check the console for JSON/configuration errors.
  5. Verify the world and player access before removing the recovery point.

Move an existing world

Enshrouded stores the shared game world on the dedicated server while character progression remains client-side. Migrate the complete compatible server world data, not a random subset of save files, and keep the original copy until the migrated world has been verified.
