When to create a manual backup
- Before changing game versions or server types.
- Before installing or updating a large modpack or plugin set.
- Before importing or replacing a world.
- Before a destructive repair, reinstall or future game-switch workflow.
Automatic backups
Runic stores backups on independent off-node storage instead of beside the game workload on the same node, so a node failure does not take your recovery points with it.
Every server includes three backup slots and an automatic nightly backup. Add 5 more slots for $1/month or 10 more for $2/month when you order or later from your service. Your allowance is shown on your service. Use Schedules in the game panel to create backups automatically, and delete old backups you no longer need to free a slot.
Restore safely
- Confirm the backup timestamp and the world/config state you expect it to contain.
- Stop the server when the restore workflow requires it.
- Confirm the destructive restore action explicitly.
- Start the server and verify the world, configuration and required packages before deleting newer recovery points.
